THC OIL AND CBD E-LIQUID DIFFERENCE [ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW]

Posted on: October 30th 2019

CBD Expérience - distributor of CBD products in Europe - wanted to meet the brand to clarify the situation of e-liquids. As well as provide answers and as much information as possible to its network of resellers. We loved the approach, and we are transcribing the interview between Maxime (founder of the CBD Expérience network) and Nicolas, the founder of Marie Jeanne.

M: Hello Nicolas, thank you for having us. Can you explain to us the compositions of the liquids inhaled by the victims in the USA?

N: Hi Max, thanks to you for the idea of a tune-up. For inhaled e-liquid solutions, the term e-liquid should not be applied. Even if the media unfairly talks about e-liquids, it is not the same product.

There was :

  • Vitamin E edible oil (acetate)
  • Aromas (food, natural or Terpenes)
  • Pure THC

Ok, what are the differences with e-liquids with or without Cbd that we can buy from specialist retailers?

The e-liquids certified on the European market are composed of:

  • PG: Propylene Glycol
  • VG: Vegetable Glycerin
  • Flavours (food, natural or Terpenes)
  • Pure CBD or Nicotine (THC is prohibited)

So the difference between the two is this famous acetate oil. Why did the American manufacturers use it?

First of all, it should be remembered that the products in question came from the black market. It is essential to clarify that not all acetate-based fluids lead to imminent death since these fluids have been around for several years. On the American market, unlike the European market, the presence of the THC molecule has been authorized for several years. However, it is almost impossible to dissolve THC in PG, VG or both together. The solution of an oily solvent works but obviously remains more or less risky when inhaled.

This is what caused an epidemic in the US. The black market is always riskier. We should not forget that health specialists in our country have always explained that it is not the vaping that is the problem, but what we inhale. They have also rightly pointed out that the oily bases cause harmful deposits in our pulmonary system in the long run.

You talk about acetate food oils. Why food oils?

In some countries, vaping is cruelly lacking in regulation. Some manufacturers, therefore, rely on food standards to justify the non-toxicity of their products. This is also the case with vitamin E oil (acetate).

It is a complete heresy to bring this kind of justification. A product good in food can be hazardous in inhalation (and vice versa). This is the case of all oily bodies of food with the vape.

Why are CBD and e-liquid irrelevant to this debate?

I think it's the rather precipitate to link the cannabis Sativa, THC and CBD. As I already said, THC is the cause of this oily solvent presence because of its difficulty to dilute. But you can't normally find THC because this molecule is forbidden in France.

On the contrary, CBD is allowed and dissolves perfectly in PG, VG. The PG VG base has been used for the last ten years. That's what we must continue to recommend for vaping solutions.

Are there any (THC-free) products sold in France that one should be careful with?

First, all the products that are sold on the black market. Also, if you find via retailers vaping solutions with or without CBD or nicotine formulated from oily substances such as acetate or other, I clearly advise you not to buy these products. Even a 6mg nicotine product with raspberry or mint but with acetate will be harmful.

So anything you find as e-liquid where you don't see PG and/or VG written.

In summary, if I follow you:

  • Only e-liquids can be inhaled through an electronic cigarette
  • CBD e-liquids must ALWAYS contain PG and VG
  • You should never inhale an oily substance with an electronic cigarette
  • THC e-liquids are by definition dangerous for your health because THC does not dissolve in PG or VG.
